The most prestigious shopping streets in the city are Avenida Jaime III and Paseo del Borne, but explore the adjoining narrow streets and alleys and you’ll find tempting boutiques like Pinko, Exclusive, Kidama, Miss Zelánea and Bossa.

Want to buy top-brand items? The Paseo del Borne has the impressive three-storey Hugo Boss Store – selling men’s and women’s clothes from the Boss Green, Black and Orange collections. Whether you shop online or in person, you’ll want to compare prices; the long winter and summer sales, with their generous discounts, are your chance to pick up some real bargains.

Want an authentic souvenir of the island? Visit Vidrios Gordiola for beautiful glass; one of the many jewellery stores for Mallorca pearls, or La Montaña for local food products. Palma’s two indoor markets – Olivar and Santa Catalina – are a foodie’s heaven.

Outside Palma, most holiday resorts have shops selling souvenirs and typical holiday items – rarely manufactured in Mallorca though. Inland, the large towns of Manacor and Inca (both a train ride from Palma) have decent-sized shopping centres: Manacor is famous for pearls; Inca for its leather goods, available at factory prices in many outlets.

If you like the atmosphere of shopping in bustling markets, you’ll find at least one every morning, somewhere in Mallorca. Check out Manacor (Monday), Artà (Tuesday), Sineu – the island’s largest – or Santanyí (Wednesday), Inca (Thursday), Santa Maria, and the huge flea market at Consell (Sunday).
